Architecture and Cities Research Forum: “Community led greywater management for sustainable water provision in Asia” by Ripin Karla
9 April 2026
Online
Across Asia, communities are facing water scarcity exacerbated by climate change. Water insecurity is on the rise in spite of the advent of so-called contemporary methods and models of water and sanitation provision such as centralised water utilities, whilst at the same time traditional community practices around water and wastewater management are often poorly mapped, forgotten, marginalised or even penalised. In this seminar, Ripin Kalra presented work aiming to reconceptualise and propose a model for water and hygiene at-scale, building upon time tested community practices and knowledge about greywater reuse, whilst managing current standards in water quality and hygiene.
